Maternity Continuation Coverage
What You Need to Know
The Health & Welfare Fund provides up to 13 weeks of coverage under the medical Plan for covered and/or eligible employees who are unable to work due to pregnancy or complications from pregnancy.
As long as you’re eligible under the Plan, you may be eligible for maternity continuation coverage—even if you’re not currently covered under the Plan.

This benefit only applies to Construction.
Highlights
- To be eligible, you must provide the Fund with a note from your attending physician that documents your condition, and the duration of care needed.
- You must apply for this benefit by submitting an application and any necessary documents to the Fund Office.
- The Fund determines whether you’re eligible and for how long you can be covered.
- This benefit does not affect your hours worked at the time the maternity continuation coverage commences. Your hours will be frozen until your maternity continuation coverage ends, up to a maximum of 13 weeks, and you will not have a break in service for the time you take under this benefit.
What You Can Use This Benefit For
You can use this benefit for any medical or mental health condition related to your pregnancy, including:
- High blood pressure
- Gestational diabetes
- Infections
- Preeclampsia
- Preterm labor
- Depression and anxiety
- Pregnancy loss/miscarriage
- Stillbirth
How to Apply
To apply for this benefit, complete the application available in Resources and return it to the Fund Office along with any required documents.
There are two application forms—the Pre-Birth Application is for maternity coverage continuation if your condition prevents you from working before birth and the Post-Birth Application is for maternity coverage continuation after birth.
Submit the application that pertains to you and your condition at the time you apply.
